Shukugawa OCC Saturday Classes - Saturday, July 11

Class 100

After a brief catch up chat, the students exchanged clues about different countries with a half crossword exercise. We then checked the homework from last week and made short presentations on our ideal trips. The students then took turns role playing travel problems. We looked at some corrections before finishing up.

Homework

As per the syllabus, I asked the students to review and study vocabulary encountered over the course of the semester.

Class 300

The class discussed their homework and shared ideas on jobs/money. We took a look at a feature from Time magazine on the what the best jobs in the USA are (#1 is audiologist fyi). We discussed possible meanings of money related idioms before checking the answers.

Homework

Please read through Unit 10, "Adult Children".

Class 200

We warmed up with a quick catch up chat before doing the same countries crossword activity as used in class 100. We spent some time going through the usage of "too/enough". We then went through the text on Denmark, stopping to discuss agnosticism v atheism, and made comparisons with Japan.

Homework

Please write a short introduction to your fictional country - Welcome to Barryland/ Toshiland/ Norikoland etc...

Class 400

We started off by going through the reading on page 44 and checking the answers from page 42. As usual, there were many questions relating to vocabulary. We had a good discussion on the topic of the evolution of languages. We looked at a Time magazine article on what makes some blended words 'sticky' - cronut, brunch etc. while others, wonut, dunch are less so.

Homework

Please start thinking about topics for your end of semester presentation (a global issue). Isaac will give more information next week.
